The Binding of Isaac

Genesis 22

God tests Abraam by commanding him to offer his beloved son Isaac as a whole burnt offering, and as Abraam raises the knife an angel of the Lord stops him, providing a ram caught in a thicket to offer in Isaac's place. The Lord then renews his promise of blessing and of descendants as numerous as the stars and the sand, and the chapter closes with a brief record of the sons born to Abraam's brother Nachor.
