Three Visitors at Mamre

Genesis 18

Three visitors come to Abraam by the oak of Mambre and are given food and hospitality, and they announce that Sarrha, who laughs to herself, will bear a son within the year. The Lord then reveals his intent to judge Sodom and Gomorrha for their great sin, and Abraam intercedes, asking that the cities be spared if even a small number of righteous people can be found within them.

JPSAnd he said: ‘Oh, let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Peradventure there shall thirty be found there.’ And He said: ‘I will not do it, if I find thirty there.’

ThomsonAnd He said, I will not destroy it, for the sake of the thirty. Again Abraham said, Since I am permitted to speak to the Lord, If twenty be found there? And He said I will not destroy it, if I find twenty there.
