The Sabbath Year and Jubilee
Leviticus 25
The Lord tells Moses that the land itself must keep a sabbath rest every seventh year, with no sowing or pruning, and that every fiftieth year is a jubilee in which land returns to its original owners and each Israelite returns to his family and possession. The chapter also sets out rules for buying and redeeming land and houses, forbids charging interest to a poor brother, and requires that any Israelite who sells himself into service be treated as a hired worker and released at the jubilee.
