The Field at Anathoth

Jeremiah 39

While besieged Jerusalem is on the brink of falling and Jeremiah is confined in the court of the prison for prophesying its capture, his cousin Hanameel comes to him with the right of redemption to sell his field at Anathoth, and Jeremiah buys it and has the deed sealed and preserved in an earthen vessel as a sign. In prayer and in the Lord's reply, this purchase becomes a pledge that fields, houses, and vineyards will again be bought in the land, for the Lord will one day restore the people and make an everlasting covenant with them.
