The Fall of Samaria

2 Kings 17

Hoshea, the last king of Israel, is subjugated by Assyria, and when he seeks help from Egypt instead of paying tribute, the king of Assyria besieges and captures Samaria, carrying Israel into exile. The chapter recounts at length the idolatry and disobedience that brought this judgment, and describes how foreign peoples resettled in Samaria adopted a mixed worship of the Lord alongside their own gods.
